Sample Travel Assignment: California

JASNEEK Travel receives a new assignment for an ICU nurse from one of its clients in Santa Barbara, California. One of JASNEEK's recruiters, Rosy Smith, immediately searches her database of ICU nurses who have registered with JASNEEK. She finds 14 who match the qualifications provided by the client and sees that 5 have requested assignments in the West. Thinking at least one of these 5 might be a good match for the position, Rosy contacts the 5 potential nurse travelers.

On the first ring, Kelly Tedesco answers the phone when Rosy calls. It turns out that Kelly has just finished staying home for a month putting up new wallpaper in her kitchen and bathrooms and is looking for a new traveling assignment. Also, since it is cold in Indianapolis where she lives, Kelly is excited about taking a position in Southern California where she can spend her free time on the beach and enjoy the many attractions in that beautiful part of the country.  Kelly has been a traveling nurse for six years, and has loved the excitement of traveling to new locations and exploring the country. She is able to make more money than if she had a position at home, and she is able to have benefits through JASNEEK. And, at the same time, she has flexibility in choosing when she wants to work.

Rosy then shares the following information with Kelly:

Details about the position

Rosy discusses with Kelly that this position will last for 13 weeks and she will be paid $35.00 per hour plus overtime paid at two times her hourly fee. In addition, Kelly will receive a $500.00 bonus when she completes the assignment. Kelly will be guaranteed full time work for the entire assignment and will work the 7:00 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. shift.

Description of the hospital and the ICU unit

Kelly will be working in a 300-bed hospital. The ICU unit she will work in has 15 beds with a nurse to patient ratio of 1 to 5. This unit is set up for post surgical cardiac patients.

Housing and travel

JASNEEK will provide Kelly a free apartment. In addition, all travel expenses will be paid by JASNEEK. The benefits Kelly already enjoys from JASNEEK will continue to be in effect. These benefits include health, dental, and life insurance, JASNEEK's 401k program with JASNEEK match, and direct deposit of her earnings weekly.

Description of Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The coastal community has long been considered one of California's prime visitor destinations. The University of California, Santa Barbara, is located 12 miles west in Goleta. Santa Barbara area is home to many celebrities and a wide variety of attractions. The Santa Barbara mission is famous landmark and the pier is a favorite place for evening walks. Annual events include: Hang Gliding and Paragliding Festival, Whale Festival & Week of the Whale, Summer Solstice Celebration, and Old Spanish Days Fiesta. Santa Barbara is only 90 miles from Los Angeles. LA has many things to do – from Hollywood and the movie studios to famous restaurants and major attractions such as Disneyland.

Kelly's decision

Kelly is impressed with this offer and thinks she should accept it. However, she asks Rosy for information on an assignment in San Antonio, a place she has always wanted to see. After searching, Rosy tells Kelly that a San Antonio position may become available in three weeks. Rosy decides that she wants to begin working within a week, and therefore decides on the Santa Barbara position. The next step will be an interview with her supervisor in the hospital followed by completion of the necessary forms to begin working in Santa Barbara. Rosy will guide Kelly through this process completely, taking care of all details and making sure Kelly's assignment goes smoothly. JASNEEK will monitor the assignment and will ensure that Kelly has all she needs for a successful and exciting work experience!
